Ardberg, Macallan, Caperdonich & Port Ellen's collectible whisky

UK-based liquor retailer Masters of Malt recently launched a new range of single malt whiskies from single distilleries. Each is independently bottled and produced from hand-selected parcels of scotch, and is given no age statement as the age of the whiskey within each bottle will vary from batch to batch. Adhering to the standards of top-quality that Master of Malt consistently executes, new batches aren’t made until the best quality stock becomes available. That boutique-y whisky company’s newest series is a far cry from the sweet and succulent Summer Fruit Cup we featured not to long ago, but equally unique in its creation — the idea being to focus whisky enthusiasts on the flavor of each bottling rather than the age. The first four distilleries represented in the  series are Ardberg, Macallan, Caperdonich, and Port Ellen, and each distillery label is hand-illustrated  with comic book style scenes of inside jokes, tall tales, and well-renowned characters of the whisky industry. Every bottle is individually numbered at a size of 50cl and hand-dipped in black wax, and is now available online in limited batches. But fear not, more batches of each of these initial distilleries as well as selections from additional distilleries will be added to the range over the coming months and year. Tasting notes for the four initial Whiskies are:

Ardberg – Batch 1

Smooth with salty peat smoke, oranges, lemons, and a dollop of vanilla

Macallan – Batch 1

Rich and sherried with notes of Christmas cake, calvados, and warm spice.

Caperdonich – Batch 1

Rhubarb with stewed grapes, pear drops, and slathering of double cream.

Port Ellen – Batch 1

Strong notes of lemon sherbet, chamois leather, and a wisp delicate peat smoke.
