The first look at the second film the The Hobbit trilogy — The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug — was just released, and in it lies our first glimpse of Smaug, the titular dragon who plays the central antagonist in the Middle Earth adventure. Some have complained about director Peter Jackson taking too many liberties with Tolkien’s beloved book — such as with the appearance of Legolas in the films — but that didn’t really seem to hurt the box office, or the general tone of the first Hobbit film. Sure it wasn’t perfect, and that whole 48 frames-per-second debacle really clouded the film’s watchability, but overall it wasn’t bad. Plus we’ll always have room in our lives for a little Evangeline Lilly. Guess we’ll see what the second film holds when The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug hits theaters on December 13th, 2013.
