Sydney artist riffs on a familiar streetwear motif
This past June we highlighted the work of Filfury’s Nike Air Max Handguns — a cheeky yet subversive riff on hot button issues such as gun control and sweatshop conditions. Now the Sydney artist is back with another collection of sneaker-based art — this time eschewing weapons for another streetwear staple: skulls. Who doesn’t love skulls? Everyone from Alexander McQueen to mastermind JAPAN play on the motif relentlessly, so it’s little surprise that Filfury — aka Phil Robson — follows suit. He also uses the same technique to fashion detailed bugs from famed Nike and Adidas sneaker models, creations that are quite stunning in their realism.
