Banksy has been having quite a busy time over in New York, throwing up pieces like a Gladiator-quoting mural (see it after the Jump) and even selling his art to unaware Central Park visitors (video below). Even though he was asking only $60 per piece, very few people realized the value of the old man’s inventory and just walked on by. If you were in NYC this weekend, then you must feel pretty frustrated right now — as the true value of each of those signed paintings is probably in the thousands of dollars. D’oh. But perhaps the most interesting work/statement from Banksy’s busy weekend was the Sirens of the Lambs exhibit – a slaughterhouse delivery truck touring the meatpacking district making quite a powerful indictment on the livestock industry. Does this mean the world famous street artist provocateur is vegetarian? Or is he simply against the industrialization of livestock? Whatever his exact message is, there’s no doubt this is a potent call to thought on the way many of us treat animals. The Sirens of the Lambs will be touring extensively citywide for the next two weeks — keep an eye out for it.
