From concept to execution… everything is handmade

Collateral-main

I predict I’ll never be able to afford a piece of art (that also happens to double as fashion) from Collateral. The price points basically make Barneys look like a 99¢ store. A boy can dream, though. I really like the designer’s medical and scientific approach to clothing and design. Everything about Collateral is unique—the use of super rare materials, historical fabrics, and special treatment techniques. The clothing and accessories are meant to evoke a level of thought and reverence while retaining a feeling of familiarity. From concept to execution, each piece is individually produced and handmade by the designer himself. Aka there’s nothing undiluted about the Collateral concept. Some of the standout pieces in the new collection: the zip flat, two-piece crushed calf leather Doctors Bag with internal instrument pockets. The hand dyed 72” Indian gauze scarf, which is limited to an edition of 10, btw. The elephant leather 36” wrap with heavily oxidized silver hook closure. The crushed calf leather messenger constructed from a single piece with helix strap and oxidized silver hardware. A 60-year-old elephant leather constructed wallet. The Lines of Langerhans 60-year-old elephant leather jacket. The acid treated helix ring; iron oxide fired groove ring; surgical needle oxidized ring; asymmetric incision hammered ring; heavily oxidized ring. And lastly the anatomic short sleeve shirt.

If you’re in the LA area you can buy some of these items at the Sartorial Loft in downtown. Or email the designer directly…
