A young contemporary artist from Miami Florida, Jen Stark creates everything from drawings and short stop action films to animation, but her standout work comes in sculpture form. The vivid use of color is what Stark specializes in, as specifically found in her sculptures which are made entirely out of paper. Individually cut large pieces of acid-free paper are sculpted together to create extraordinary kaleidoscope-like pieces. Far beyond simple crafting capabilities, she skillfully maneuvers the pieces to create three dimensional colorful shapes and sculptures — some that you can even peer into as if you were looking through a rabbit hole of color. All done with color construction paper and an Exacto-blade — the same meager tools you were given in art class. Feel artistically useless yet? Some of Stark’s work in the gallery below, or if you’re in the LA area check out her “Paper Cuts” piece live as part of a group art show at Fullerton College Art Gallery on display until Thursday, February 24.
