If you’re into electronic music you’ll know Futura’s work from his illustration and design work for Mo’ Wax and James Lavelle’s UNKLE project. His work with Lavelle pretty much defined UNKLE’s aesthetic. If you’re a sneaker head no doubt he’s an icon for his graffiti work. Guy went All City decades ago. And, of course there’s the whole collectible toys thing. No big introduction needed here.
Same with The Clash—if you can’t tell we love them here then you’re not picking up on valuable hints. What you might not know, however, is that Futura’s design work pretty much kicked off with The Clash, producing a sleeve for their Radio Clash 7″, as well as handwriting the sleeve notes and lyric sheet for their ’82 LP, Combat Rock. Which also featured Futura doing guest vocals on “Overpowered by Funk” (which we posted below). Futura also put out “The Escapades Of Futura 2000” featuring The Clash.
New York kicked so much ass in the ’80s. Enjoy the music…
