The Code-X concept is a 47′ 7” yacht that employs both Solar and Formula 1 technology. The Swiss-designed catamaran can either engage its twin-Limor Formula One engines (710 hps each) and rip across waters at 80 knots, or switch to its twin electric motors and cruise at a more refined 9 knots. The electric engines can only run up to two hours on its lithium ion batteries, but has on-board solar panels to charge the batteries — altho how long it takes to charge them is left unsaid. (Despite the efforts of rendering the boat in real locations, the Code-X is nothing more than a beautiful design and skilled rendering. No plans yet on actually building the boat.)
Beyond its good looks and Kevlar/carbon shell, the Code X also employs a GPS-controlled ‘virtual anchor’ system that keeps the boat in a specific location utilizing its electric motors. No need to ever actually drop anchor, but that does seem like an unnecessary waste of electricity. Lastly, the boat is outfitted with phototropic-shaded screens and windows. All that aside, the real reason to own one is cos it would make for a helluva nice afternoon of topless tanning in St. Tropez…
