Motorized art from Alexander Calder to Jeff Koons

BMW’s highly influential Art Car trend began in 1975 when French racecar driver and auctioneer Hervé Poulain commissioned American artist Alexander Calder to paint the first BMW Art Car. Since then a pantheon of top artists including Andy Warhol (above), David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, and most recently Jeff Koons have applied their craft to the bodywork of a BMW. Now the collection of one-of-a-kind vehicles has been put up for viewing via a virtual tour — all 17 vehicles of the BMW Art Car series can be found by visiting BMW-Art Car Tour.
