Contrasting love, lust, and gore-decadence, wrath and fate

LA-based illustrator Hannah Stouffer is one of our favorites and we’re supper happy to have her as one of the featured artists at our “End Days” event this weekend. If you like icons and images that reflect and categorize historical eras, genres, and subcultures, no doubt you’ll find Hannah’s work opulent, elegant, and a beautifully intricate contrast between darkness and light. Her densely-packed compositions consciously recall classical elements from our past and combine them with modern attractions, creating cohesive yet opposing arrays of imagery and embellishment.

You can also wear her art. She’s one of the many talented designs creating for LA based tee shirt company Blood Is The New Black. BTW, if you’re not familiar with Blood Is The New Black, get acquainted…Mitra Khayyam, the owner over there, is doing something special.  We asked Hannah a few questions… make the jump to read the interview.

Introduce yourself to Lost In A Supermarket readers.
My name is Hannah Stouffer, I live here in LA and I like to draw decadence, wrath and fate.

What do the words “End Days” mean to you? In other words, does the idea fill you with dread and fear, or do you think of such a transition with hope?
Neither really… I like both of those words.

What would you like people to say about you and/or your work when you’re gone?
It would be amazing if they say anything at all.

What—outside of other artists or heroes—has influenced your art the most?
Probably my father.

Of all the work you’ve created, can you name a couple that you have a special love for or connection to?
Black Roses Tell a Story, Suffer My Desire, Lost Storm and The Black Coffin- all works on paper- mainly ink and watercolor.  For every 10 pieces I create, I usually only really feel drawn to 1 or 2 of them in the end. I usually feel like I can do better.

If you were Lost In A Supermarket, what aisle would we find you in?
Snack isle.
