A solitary look at a car-less Los Angeles

I’ve been an admirer of Matt Longue’s EmptyLA photography project for awhile (above pic). Exhibiting what Los Angeles would look like car-less and people-less, there is a simple beauty and austere loneliness to the pieces as a whole. Now cinematographer Ross Ching has taken the idea and put it into film format in his Running On Empty film study. Using Photoshop and Final Cut Pro he was able to remove all the cars from the time lapse video, creating a stunningly beautiful Los Angeles. It reminds me a bit of David Yoon’s NarrowStreetsLA we covered this week; there seems to be a murmuring anti-car sentiment in the zeitgeist I guess. Blame BP, who knows. Nice work on the video tho…
