Kids is one of those movies that’s a total anomaly, in that as great and seminal as it is none of the creative forces behind it ever did anything else worth a damn. Sure it gave the world Chloë Sevigny and Rosario Dawson (for which we’re grateful), but the duo behind Kids — director Larry Clark and 19-year-old wunderkind writer Harmony Korine — pretty much shit the bed afterwards. Clark went into a drug tailspin that pooped out drivel like Bully and Another Day in Paradise, while Korine went the way of arty weirdo trying to creep people out with worthless junk like Gummo and Trash Humpers. It would be hard for me to recommend any of these “movies” any less. I bring this up because Harmony Korine finally has a movie that has people talking again: Spring Breakers. Like Kids, Spring Breakers tells the sordid and seemingly salacious story of youth gone wild, and reviews of its debut at the Venice Film Festival say the crime genre film is actually surprisingly mainstream. Reading its synopsis, that sounds about right: a group of teenage girls (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine, Ashley Benson) rob a convenient store to pay for their Spring Break, as kids will do. Once in Florida they get busted and got to jail, but are fortuitously bailed out by a dreadlocked RiFF RaFF-looking rapper (don’t believe me?) and drug dealer played by James Franco (who was helped by Korine on his Rebel short film). As you can imagine, bikini’d madness, copious drug consumption and gunplay ensue. Makes you wonder if Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens are just trying to find the quickest excuse to get vomited out of the Disney machine. Anyway, the second teaser and some images were just released, find them below. They don’t reveal much, but I’m guessing there’s gonna be a lot of girls behaving badly…
